rssHugger Removes Registration Fee – Promote Your Blog for Free

After the soft launch of my new startup rssHugger earlier this November, I have been receiving ample amounts of feedback from the community. I have finally responded to the popular vote by removing the $10 registration fee associated with signing up. Now if you own a quality blog, and make a blog post/review about rssHugger, you can get your own blog listed in rssHugger for 10 years for free. The same quality standards still apply, and I will still be manually approving blogs, but now you do not have to spend any money to promote your blog. If you do not want to make a blog post about rssHugger, you can opt out by paying a one time fee of $20, which runs down to only $2 per year making rssHugger the biggest bang for your buck in terms of blog advertising and promotion.
(Update: The site has been reprogrammed. Login to your rssHugger account and go to the “Add a feed” tab. You can register your feed there). My programmer and I will be updating rssHugger.com to include the new changes over the next few days. If you want to get in early, write your review on your blog and email me (Contact page at the top) with your URL to your blogs review of the site, as well as the email you registered on rssHugger.com (your account email). I will manually be reviewing every entry before it is included in the site. If you have recently already purchased the previous $10 registration fee, you can also email me your Paypal payment ID and I will gladly refund your payment after the blog review is up.
Now for those of you who have not heard of rssHugger previously, here is a bit of the background information.
The Idea
rssHugger is a unique website that aims to bring bloggers and readers together. rssHugger aims to provide blog owners with a unique easy-to-use way to promote their blogs by sending them traffic, building backlinks for search engine optimization, as well as attracting new rss subscribers if the content is interesting to the reader. rssHugger aims to help visitors be able to easily find blogs that write about subjects they are interested in. These subjects include: internet marketing, making money online, charity, sports, gambling, and many more. If the visitors find a blog that they had not previously heard about, they can easily add it to their RSS readers or bookmark it.
The Goal
My goal was originally to get 50,000 blogs signed up with a $10 joiners fee, but due to the fact that I want to support all of the great bloggers, even those who cannot afford $10, I changed this goal to sign up 250,000 free blogs within the first year of operation. With over 112 million registered blogs, with about 175,000 new ones per day, I feel this goal is possible. The money will be used to pay off college expenses, to invest in my other internet startup companies, sponsor like-minded business folk, and continue to support Kiva, who support entrepreneurs in the developing world.
How much does a blog page cost?
Due to the popular vote in the community, we have removed the registration fee! To get a permanent RSS page on rssHugger, all you need to do is write an honest review of the website on your blog. If you do not want to talk about rssHugger on your blog, we do offer an alternative of a $20 review fee, which ultimately runs down to only $2 per year!
What are the benefits of owning a blog page?
For the blog owners:
# Raise awareness of your blog
# Send tons of visitors to your blog
# Share traffic with the community
# Be part of a viral/buzz marketing campaign
# Build deep-links for your blog posts to help with search engine optimization
# Get new interested RSS subscribers who view your content on a regular basis.
For the visitors:
# Find blogs that interest you
# Easily subscribe to many blogs
# Skim over hundreds of blogs to find what suits you

Your project brought my attention. You could check out my post now rssHugger Blog Directory: the Right Model?
I hope being the first taker would give me some other special privileges as well, such as… being the first affiliate…
You are building a very right model right now and I hope you will grow better in the future.

I tihnk you are on the right track here. The web should really crank up with blog posts about your move. Should go viral and you will probably make more money in the long run, than you would have with the submissions alone.

hello Colin,
My name is Ken, from the UK. I just found out about your great site – rsshungger. Its a great concept ~I think you will be making alot of money soon =]
Have you thought about writing a guide (online tutorial, ebook or actual book) on how to build a site like rsshunger (from concept to the finishsed product) ? Because people like me (average web designer) wanted to know how to build a successful site like that. If you do please let me know because I will be the first one to buy it!!
Thanks
Ken
I hate to admit it, but I feel good about this and am proud to have the first trackback and the first comment. I’m just can’t stop bragging about it because I see my blog http://www.rsshugger.com/binh.name listed on 9th position on your top 100 page.
I have so much more suggestions to make but… since I’m not a team member I don’t have much saying… sigh… such as showing a teaser fo each post link instead of the bare title. Bare titles only work for JohnChow.com, because I got no clicks, just viewers.
@Ken: I am not a big fan of ebooks because I see a lot of people on forums pack a ton of simple tips (Not even as good as the ones I give away on my blog), and sell them for $5-7 to 50 people to make a quick buck… but your idea sounds plausible because I have not seen anyone with a step by step guide to a professional product launch. Thanks for the suggestion, and I might take you up on that offer! =)
Great, useful and practical idea for a newbie like myself. I have registered.
@Colin: Thanks for your quick reply. Would you mind telling me (briefly) how you made the rssHunger site? I’m assuming it’s PHP based… did you use a pre-built CMS or you built the whole thing from scratch?
By the way, feel free to contact me if you need any help on the visual side of things.
Thanks
Ken

Collin, I’ve registered and will be very interested in seeing how it develops. My first question is about the “search engine”. At the moment it is a directory listing. Will you be adding more search functionality, and will we be able to find posts as well as blogs using tags?
Also, will there be be post excerpts added, so that we can see what we want to read before going offsite? Oh, so many questions. I shall be interested to see the direction the site’s development takes.
Hi cerebralmum, I am considering adding a search feature, yes. As for the “finding blog posts” and “excerps”, the answer (at the moment) is no. My site acts as a middleman to connect bloggers and readers, so the links are to help your blog in the search engine, and the RSS feeds are for users to subscribe. If I posted excerps, it would actually hurt your google rank (Duplicate content), and provide less search engine rankings. The site is very new, so I may reconsider everything in a month though, as there is no hurry. =)

Hi Collin,
I wanted to always be in your top 100 so I threw up a squidoo page and will promote it. I’ll be providing tutorials on how to utilize this site to promote squidoo lenses and blogs. Since I have yet to see my hugger page (signed up just now) I don’t have any ideas. By the way what platform did you use (Ruby?) I working on a vertical portal and want to integrate several options. If you have any ideas on how to promote our blogs with hugger please let me know so I can publish them on squidoo.
Thanks for the great site.
Hi Jeff. rssHugger is a niche for promoting/finding blogs, you will need to have an RSS feed to be listed. Does squidoo provide you with an rss feed? The site was made in PHP/ajax.

I have registered at rssHugger and have also submitted the review link to them, now how to know whether my blog is listed or not.
How much time is takes to get listed in their listing ??
Your blog has already been approved.
Is there a way one can check if the blog submission is approved or not. The present search facility need to be modify. Instead of listing categories, it should be able to turn up query about a single search. That is, YES it is registered or NO it is not. By the way, I submitted NaijaEcash and my review is at http://naijaecash.com/2008/03/.....ss-hugger/
Email graham@wordhugger.com if he is being slow in accepting it.
I have never heard of rssHugger before but anyway, thanks for sharing.
