Million Dollar Wiki is for sale – [Breaking]

Graham Langdon’s original claim to fame website (MillionDollarWiki.com) has just been listed on Sitepoint a little over 60 minutes ago. The Million Dollar Wiki has profited Graham over $100,000 since it’s creation, but after all of the biggest ‘make money online’ blogs have had their say, it will be interesting to see if a new owner can build up the hype to earn a lot of money back on his investment. You can see the Sitepoint auction here. I am curious as to why the person who listed the auction has only registered this week. Their username is “Interking111″, so I am not 100% positive that this is Graham, but he might have hired someone to sell it for him. I do not see why else someone would pay $40 for a listing. I can assume that this post, as well as the Sitepoint listing may start up a second round of buzz, which might be exactly what Graham is hoping for. I find the sale listing time off, because just on his blog post today he said he was venturing out to different niche bloggers to continue promoting it, so I do not know why he would go back on his word a few hours later. If this was actually a publicity stunt, it sure made great link bait. Kudos Graham!

PS: Graham is also the developer of EntreCard.

I wish Graham, as well as the new owner, the best of luck running the site. I hope a new incredible internet marketer takes the stand and pushes it to the million dollar goal. So far it has had one private bid of $5000, and no Buy-It-Now has been listed.

  2. It is true, the Million Dollar Wiki is for sale, for the right price. I need to raise a lot of capital to meet the next three months of expenses for Entrecard, and instead of selling a piece of Entrecard, I’m going to see what I might get for Million Dollar Wiki.

MDW still sells about 5 pages per week, and if properly marketed, could do a lot more I’m sure. I have a potential deal with an individual who is an outlet to 8,000 of the most highly targeted customers anyone could ask for, and I think it can be successfully marketed to a high percentage of them. This deal may go through before the sale, but if not, the lead will be included in the sale.

But really what this signifies is my commitment to Entrecard, and my attempt to find a new owner for MWD who is going to give it the TLC it deserves.

  6. Good catch in the SitePoint forums. I suspect it would have been healthier for Graham to take an approach somewhat closer to John Cow’s with MEW and give page owners a heads up via email. It looks pretty odd for the MDW blog to have drummed up future promotional promises while there is an auction on the block.

I think one of the difficulties that a new owner will face is that one of the compelling promotional aspects behind MDW is the story behind it — which is intricately tied to Graham. With a sale, the story behind it is naturally much less compelling.

  10. I think the site could do a lot better if it gets into the hands of a seasoned internet marketer. The kind of hype generated around the page was enormous and a LOT of people know about this page. That should make things a little easier for the person who’s gonna buy this page.

  14. It might be due to Collin’s wordHugger and OneDollarWiki making him lose too much business. So yes, your wish for him but… he might not want it anymore.

  16. If I could afford it, I’d buy the MDW, but as you know, we don’t make much money sellin’ pages, just enough to keep up the servers. At cost of $800 per month for 2 servers, it’s pretty hefty business unless you are sellin’ $100 pages.
