My followup to Entrecard

This is a followup to my earlier post Entrecard – fantastic idea or a flop. At first glance, the website looked entirely confusing and hard to understand, but it only took a few minutes of playing around with it to master it.

Overall, here is my summary:

I sent 47 people from my blog to Entrecard.
With the ads I purchased from Entrecard, I received 31 visitors back to my blog.

Although I still have over 150 credits to spend, I can say that this is close enough to my 1:1 goal which I hoped for. Entrecard goes above and beyond though because with all of the people wanting to whore credits every day, they go through every blog featured on the list to drop their card. This is good because it sent another 172 visitors (not unique though) to my blog. Most of them quickly dropped their Entrecard and left, but I can assume with the repetition of constantly viewing the same blogs over and over again, some of those 172 will turn into rss subscribers. In my honest opinion, I would rate Entrecard a 10/10 for new blogs that are just starting out, and for 9/10 for existing or large blogs.

Pros:

  • I got a lot of new traffic, and hopefully rss subscribers
  • I am ranked high on the internet marketing category
  • My blog is growing with the website
  • It is completely free
  • I networked with a few new bloggers
  • You can get cheap advertising
  • The system is secure.
  • –(I tried scripting up a neat little javascript hack to automate the process, as I know for sure people will try to hack the site in the future). Luckily, the system caught me and penalized me, so I am glad to know that they have security features in place, so hopefully there will not be anyone who will cheat the system to make all your hard work go in vain.

    Cons:

  • The big bloggers (problogger.net) are allowed to disable ads on their widget… so what good is running an entrecard at all?
  • The big bloggers will always stay at the top, and get all the bonus traffic
  • It costs a fortune to get an ad on a big blog like JohnChow, and you never know how much traffic you will get on that day
    The dashboard is kinda ugly.
  • As for whether it is worth my time, Entrecard is a definite keeper. If you have not yet signed up, go do it! After you have, feel free to drop your card on my blog. Hopefully with all the money Graham will be getting from selling his other site, we can expect to see a lot of cool new features come out. Entrecard’s future looks very promising.

    4. Just wanted to say that you have the ability to disable your ads on your widget as well – you can do it from the dashboard. And, you might notice me up there at the top with the ‘big’ bloggers, and my blog is only a month old. So, really anybody can get up there – just have to know how to work the system.

    6. Entrecard is working out rather nice for me. The only thing is I don’t have the time to approve everything, or drop cards as much as I would like to.
