Blog Critiques Part Two

Update: I have added two columns.

Update 2: Moved Entrecard to the bottom right.

Update 3: Changed the homepage to only show the 4 most recent posts. (It use to be 6). This will keep the blog shorter and allow for the columns to look better.

Thanks for all of the comments on my blog critique post. Rather than selecting a winner for a review, I am going to give everyone some link love… after a brief synopsis of some changes.

The two biggest complaints were that the content area was too dark at the top, and hard to read. The second biggest complaint was that the right side of the blog was too empty.

SOLUTION – Removed the gradient for easier reading.
SOLUTION – Made it dual columns and different font.

More minor edits:

  • Changed ads to fit with the the color changes.
  • Changed the amount of top commentator from 6 to 8.

Still Pending Changes:

  • The peachy color under the posts where it says “xx comments” and “permalink.”

For the people that critiqued my last post, do you think the new changes on the theme is a big improvement?

I would like to thank everyone who submitted their opinion.

  6. Thanks for the link. I think the orange is a striking contrast to the other 170M+ blogs out there, so I’m glad you kept it. The readability is definitely better now.

  10. Thanks for the link.

I think the right column is too far over to the right; like a small chasm between the ad column and the links column.

The content column is now more difficult for me to read but that’s ok, if others like it, then its just a matter of choice but I like varying textures as it helps break up monotony for the eye.

Getting hammered with just 2 static colors of orange is going to tire the eye out pretty quickly… especially since its not so used to so much orange. But again, it’s neither here nor there… just enjoy yourself.

And kick ‘em in the balls.

  12. Hi,

Thanks for the link. The lighter orange you now have in the main content area is, for me a least, a much better colour with the black font. And the two sidebars gives the readers a quicker glance to what they’ll find here rather than having to scroll so much. I like it.

  16. Thanks for the link! The white background is certainly easy on the eye!
