Technorati Sucks

I was planning on writing one final blog post announcing my Technorati milestone of getting my blog into the top 25,000 blogs of all time, but I decided to change it to a negative post after I have finally been fed up with Technorati.

Technorati has always been attacked by spam blogs, but only recently has it been overrun with them. It started when the pharmaceutical companies started their Technorati Favorites spam campaign. Technorati and their staff didn’t seem to do anything about it, so as you can guess, the spammers evolved their techniques into a more hostile spamming campaign. Keyword spammers seem to have also taken siege, and I have not heard about any new features coming out. Even the new versions of Wordpress have switched from utilizing Technorati reactions over to using Google Blogsearch listings.

Unless something changes drastically, I am done with Technorati. By the time I actually get into the top 100 blogs of all time, it will be so overrun with spam that it will not even mean anything. Now is the perfect time for a flawless competitor to launch, and I hope one does.

Update: Looks like the spammers have accomplished their mission, they are now ranking #1 for the most profitable search term on the planet.

  2. They are becoming more and more irrelevant aren’t they. I read a pile of blogs every day and be doing so have developed a bit of a sense of what’s talked about a lot, what’s respected and what’s fading. Facebook and Entrecard seem to be getting all the buzz. just don’t hear much about technorati…good call!

  8. Funny ain’t it, if you are fast and can build and market a site you can over come a lot of sites fast.

  10. Totally agree with you. I don’t like how Technorati work. I hate sites that because they are big they create new terms from English that stay not original such as Technorati Authority

  12. It is a personal choice. It allows for links in my blog posts to give more benefit to those that I am talking about or thanking. Dofollow would lower my domains authority for linking to “bad neighborhoods,” such as an internet marketing blog linking to a designer sunglasses website. I do however provide a link to the top 8 commentators.

  14. Unfortunately, spam-bots have taken over the site. Very frustrating for an end-user who genuinely trying to find top blogs. Who is in charge there? Is anyone addressing the issue?

  22. I went over to Technorati yesterday and saw the viagra spam and thought maybe the guys at Technorati are in with the Viagra affiliate thing and it’s their sites that are ranking at the top? I can’t even get Technorati to index my tags any longer.

  26. Personally I think all these blog catalogs are bogus. I certainly am not interested in searching them in order to find blogs to read. Although I am a blogger, I prefer to read books and newspapers. I hate wading through blogs.
