Google Knowl

Now before I confuse anyone, I purposely have a typo in the title of this post. The reason is because my 6 month old post announcing Google Knol has received over a hundred visitors from people searching for the term Google Knowl. That post is on the bottom of page two, so I figured I would capitalize on that commonly searched typo variation of Google’s new site. Google Knowl is just a typo for the real name, called Google Knol. I just wanted to add a warm welcome to all of my new readers who have found my blog by searching for Google Knowl. Thanks for not being able to spell properly! :-)

With all that being said… onto the post!

Referring to the quote that “everyone knows something,” Google recently launched their dubbed “Wikipedia killer,” called Google Knol. Knol is short for Knowledge (hence why there is a lot of people searching for Google Knowl), and it’s been in development since sometime last year when I first posted about it. Google’s aim is to allow anyone to write about a subject that they are an expert in, much like Squidoo does that launched way back in 2005. On Google Knol, you can have multiple authors collaborate on a specific subject as long as the principal author accepts the suggestions and/or changes. After all, their name and reputation is associated with it. It’s similar to Wikipedia but includes added features such as ranking of articles, revenue sharing with Google Adsense, and being able to add a cartoon from the New Yorker magazine’s extensive cartoon library.

It appears there is no limit on topics either. I did a quick search and found an in-depth article written about Buttermilk Pancakes. On the main page there is the article, or in this case a recipe, a View tab and a Revisions tab, a photo of the author, comments, and a Reviews area.

Because Google Knol is newly launched, there are still plenty of premium topics available.

Conclusion and my opinion
Back when Google first made the post announcing that they were developing Knol, they stated, “A knol on a particular topic is meant to be the first thing someone who searches for this topic for the first time will want to read.”

From an internet marketing perspective, that sounds a lot like Knol articles are going to rank insanely well on Google, much like how Wikipedia dominates hundreds of thousands of keywords. Considering Knol is in an infant stage right now, you should hurry on over there and start cranking out some quality unique articles for the chance that they start receiving a lot of traffic and earn you a nice adsense check. Another great thing about Google Knol is that the revenue sharing works really well because Google owns Adsense. Squidoo had revenue sharing way back in 2005, but 50% of the time Squidoo’s adsense loaded, and the other 50% yours did. With Google Knol, you are in a sense getting rid of the middle man and your adsense will load 100% of the time.

With the potential for easy ranking, loads of traffic, expanding your online reputation/profile, a cut of all adsense earnings for your pages, and most of all it being COMPLETELY FREE, there is NO reason you shouldn’t start cranking out Google Knol pages on topics you are passionate about. Heck, Mr. Buttermilk Pancakes is already #3 on Google and his page has a PR0.

    2. I tried publishing a few and after writing extensive articles, none of them have appeared in the Knol search results. I tried it under two different google accounts, same results. Has anyone else had any luck w/ this service?

    3. Have you actually published them? You cant just hit save, you need to actually make sure in the right hand column it says “this article is published” or something to that effect…

    Double check your titles too….. i had forgotten a keyword i was searching for that i couldnt find with search, then realized that word wasnt in the title of the article…

    4. Hey I guess its time for an article about “Sacramento Weddings”…LOL…..great job with the typo idea….it reminded me that, in my Metas & content, I forgot to intentionally misspell “D I S K” instead of Disc (when people type in “Disc”, some still spell it with a K instead of a C).
