Link Building with Blog Carnivals

I am going to first start this post off by saying that I have never personally ran a blog carnival, although I see them being talked about all around the web as well as the link building community because they are what appears to be an easy way to build relevant links. With that being said, I am going to introduce the idea of blog carnivals for those who have never heard of them so they may research the topic as well and decide for themselves if the links are relevant for their needs.

To quote SearchEngineJournal.com (with a few typos corrected by myself)

A blog carnival is a regular topical event connecting multiple bloggers based on a chosen theme. A blog carnival often includes a number of participants (most of them get credits in the form of links and new niche connections):

  • the blog carnival organizer: if you are an established voice in your niche, you can organize your own blog carnival and get plenty of awareness;
  • blog host – the one who publishes the link collection (posts chosen to take part in the carnival) on his own blog and also generates multiple links from the thankful participants;
  • bloggers: those who write posts on the carnival topic and submit them for inclusion (and get links at least from the blog host site).

The main website to go check out blog carnivals is none other than BlogCarnival.com. This website updates itself with the most recent and active blog carnivals going around the blogging community, and should be the place where you launch yours.

Best of luck running your own blog carnivals for all the many different niches of my readers. If you have a case study, feel free to share your results in the comments below.

  4. Carnivals have been around for a long time and they continue to work like a charm for low-hassle link building. I’m constantly amazed by the number of veteran site owners and bloggers who don’t take advantage of them.

  14. I have never come across a Blog Carnival, how do you know if you’re looking at one? I guess there won’t be lots of scantily clad people dancing around?

  16. Hello Everyone,

    Amazing site you have here! I am fairly new to the blog world and have gotten a chance to sumbit at least 15 articles to blog carnivals. I did see a slight increase in the number of hits I got. Roughly around 250 new visitors for each carnival that posts my links. For a newbie this can be significant targeted traffic. Submitting to the various carnivals can be a drag so I have recently signed up for a Carnival Submission Service (personalhack.com). They offered to give me 30 days free so I had nothing to lose at this point. They submit to approx 15-20 carnivals a week on our behalf. Will see how the traffic goes and then decide whether it’s worth the $25 a month.

    Hope this helps everyone!
    Happy Blogging!

  30. Unfortunately, blogcarnival.com doesn’t work anymore. You may submit stuff, but it’s really not getting properly submitted if you don’t get an acknowledgment of your submission. It’s been down 2 weeks now and who knows when or if it will be back in commission?
