Link Building with HubPages
Hubpages has been around for a long time, and is nearly as popular as Squidoo when it comes to building niche-targeted posts with external links to websites and affiliate products. The biggest difference you will find around the web is that many people prefer Squidoo more because they say “Hubpages adds the NOFOLLOW tag to your links” making them not worth the time and effort it takes to write quality content and run a proper link building campaign.
This statement is part true and part false. The truth of the matter is if you write QUALITY articles with lots of content that build organic links and get a little bit of search engine traffic, these pages will give you a higher “Hubscore” for your profile. Once you reach a hubscore of 75 or higher, EVERY single one of your hubs links are changed from nofollow to dofollow. The reason they do this is because it really nullifies down the amount of automated spam they receive. The good thing for you guys is that if you have the dedication to actually crank out a few quality hubs, you can get good links from hubpages which has far less external links than its competitor Squidoo. You may also make a few dollars via adsense depending on the niches you are targeting.
So go write 5-10 hubs about different keywords in your industry and enjoy 5-10 pages of good links in the future, as well as a few bonus unique visitors here and there that find your hub organically. It truly is worth the up-front time investment down the road to get your hubscore 75 or higher. Best of luck!

Infobarrel – Dofollow Link Building on
Sun, 21st Feb 2010 9:05 am
I think that although hubpages will claim it’s a quality control measure, It’s just a rort to save giving dofollow links which are becoming more and more premium.
This much I do know – If you write a laborious 1000 page hub and build a few links to it, there is no guarantee that you’ll get a 75+ score. That’s a lot of wasted time!
I do know this – Build an article for Ezine articles and it’s there forever with a dofollow link and tons on targeted traffic.
I just refuse to support any platform that won’t offer a measly dofollow link straight up for your work.
Avoid – Wetpaint, Hubpages, Zimbio and any others and use Squidoo, Ezine articles and free blogging platforms, you’ll rank better anyway.
While you have a valid opinion, one way I REALLY utilize hubpages is in conjunction with Unique Article Wizard.
My review here:

I write an article for UAW, and can spin a unique version for squidoo, hubpages, goarticles, etc. They all can be optimized for different titles and keywords and the links are great and come easily! It did not take me long at all to get a hubscore of 75+
Link building is very much important for get rank on search engine.
Nice blog, I have stumbled your blog through stumbleupon, I own one blog related to work at home, my id on SU id chandansaud , plz add me on your friend list and if you like then please give me one thumps up. Thank you.
Not anyone has got the talent to write a professional article. Article writing is often referred to as a walk in the park. Not to mention those who haven’t English as their first language.
Just curious of your opinion on this one, if I was to use HubPages for link building but also wanted to cash in on AdSense revenue, do you think Google has a footprint of your profile?
A definite flag IMHO on any other sites, but since it is a 60/40 share, curious if they have a handle on that if you built a number of profiles/hubs all with the same analytics/adsense id linking them when crossed then with the outbound links…
Not really sure, but definitely a possibility.
Already join hubpages, but I still don’t have an Idea how I track my adsense income from hubpages. Have any idea? They said they sharing with the author.
I’m agree about the link. Thanks for sharing.
To track adsense earnings through hubpages just setup a url channel in your adsense account for hubpages.com (I’ve seen some even specify the specific url of each hub so they can track it on a VERY detailed level.)
I think the 60/40 split may be just splitting the % of impressions with their id and your id. Although I’m not certain. I imagine since you have to authorize them to connect to your account they may actually be splitting only the earnings. If that’s the case I haven’t seen anything that would make me suspect that’s the case. (I’ve seen clicks in my hubpages.com channel.)
I’m going to have to agree with Angry Banana on this one. About 2 or 3 weeks ago, I wrote a very nice quality piece on free virus removal tools and how to use them.
To make it easier on my readers, I included links to all of the tools. I worked really hard on the article, starting with a draft, and then about 3 revisions and edits.
About an hour after I posted to Hubpages, I received a notice: “Overly Promotional – Solely or excessively promotes another site(s)”
So, I went back and edited the article, taking out some of the links. Unfortunately, this made it a little bit more difficult for the reader because it made the reader search the web for the tools that were mentioned.
About a week later, I was shocked to learn that my link from their site carried the dreaded “nofollow” tag. I think that this is absolutely ridiculous.
If the articles are reviewed by a human (as evidenced by me having to revise my article because of excessive links), why should I not get the SEO fruits of my writing labor.
Well, long story short, I deleted my well-revised article from Hubpages on principle alone. I’d much rather put the material on my own site than help generate traffic for a site that doesn’t even reward me with a good link!
Hubpages is clearly “playing favorites” and not even trying to hide the fact. I say boycott Hubpages until they quit with the popularity contest. Not everyone has a heavily searched for bucket of keywords to write on.
Hi Colin
I just joined and submitted by blog to rssHugger and thought I would come over and check out your blog.
Thank you for the invitation about HugPages score rule. I didn’t realize they turned to dofollower once you hit 75 because I have always consistently been in the 80s but never use it as much as I could.
Now I will definitely add it to my list of places to go!
Diane
I use squidoo and hubpages and think they are both essential tools for building backlinks to a site. It takes a little more work with hubpages but it’s worth it in the end.
Thanks for the info. Didnt know that hubpages changes hub links to do follow after reaching a hubscore of 75.
I signed up for HubPages a few days ago. I’ve written 3 decent-quality hubs. Two of them have only one outbound link each, and the third has no outbound links. I’ve completed my profile, made a couple comments on other people’s hubs, and made a couple of forum posts. My hub score is now 77 and my links are dofollow. That’s not too hard.
I think I’ll have to participate regularly to keep my score up. I don’t plan to post any more hubs without links. I did that to try to establish my score. We’ll see how it goes
